The first step is a level floor.

The stable foundation for any demands.

Floor application

When renovating your bathroom, the first thing you need is a level floor. Unevenness and even height differences can be levelled out quickly and easily using Qboard® basiq.

You can use Qboard® basiq on any substrate, whether screed, concrete, wood or old tiles. Even in conjunction with underfloor heating. The thermally insulating property of the construction board contributes to saving heating energy.

... and here's how to do it:

Bodenanwendung mit Qboard Bauplatten: Schritt 1

The substrate should be clean, stable and adhesive and must first be suitably primed if necessary. Then apply tile or flexible adhesive to the entire surface with a notched trowel.

Bodenanwendung mit Qboard Bauplatten: Schritt 2

Afterwards embed Qboard® basiq in the adhesive by moving it back and forth slightly.

Bodenanwendung mit Qboard Bauplatten: Schritt 3

Use Qboard® glass-fibre tape to fill all construction board joints. In wet areas (e.g. showers), you should use Qboard® sealing tape.

Bodenanwendung mit Qboard Bauplatten: Schritt 4

After the tile adhesive has hardened, you can start to lay the tiles.

Questions & Answers

The core of the Qboard® consists of extruded polystyrene foam, a synthetic material that is waterproof, thermally insulating, light and very stable. This is coated in a fibreglass fabric and mortar so that tiles and other surface finishes can be applied directly to it.

Any conventional tools: knives, cutters, handsaws, electric jigsaws, electric circular saws or circular table saws. You can use sandpaper for precision work and if you need a hole, then just use a screwdriver.

Yes, it is possible to do so in principle. Please ensure that the application temperature limit of 75°C for Qboard® construction boards is not exceeded.

The compressive strength or compressive stress at 10% compression according to EN 826 is > 0.25 N/mm² (approx. 25 t/m²). See the following link for further technical properties.

Yes, the core of the Qboards® consists of extruded polystyrene foam, a synthetic material that has excellent thermal insulation properties. It has a thermal conductivity of approx. 0.035 W/(m·K).
